James Billard
Attorney
James’ interest in renewable energy work began while interning with a renewable energy developer in law school, which gave him the opportunity to become involved in the planning and development of wind and solar projects. Since that time, he has continued his participation in the clean energy transition in representing developers, investors and strategic participants in corporate and project finance transactions. In working as a transactional attorney in the energy space, James has advised on numerous utility-scale renewable energy projects geared towards advancing the transition to sustainable power.
His experience includes structuring, drafting, negotiating and advising on financings, debt and equity investments and other corporate transactions for land-based and offshore wind, solar photovoltaic projects and behind-the-meter battery storage assets. Prior to joining Clean Energy Counsel, James was a managing associate in the Energy and Infrastructure practice group at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP.
James is passionate about protecting the natural world and helping to reduce the adverse consequences of climate change. He spends his free time outdoors whenever possible and enjoys climbing, hiking and skiing with friends and family.
